Caleb Balbuena is the head pitching instructor here at the Power Plant. He is also the founder/owner of Caught Stealing LLC, a baseball training technology company revolutionizing player development through innovative hardware and mobile applications.

Caleb was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 1997 draft by the Baltimore Orioles but instead chose to compete at Long Beach State, where he ultimately reached the College World Series. He was later drafted by the Seattle Mariners, launching a ten-year professional career within both the Mariners and Colorado Rockies organizations.

Shortly after his professional career ended, Caleb transitioned to coaching, where he's built a 23-year career as a private pitching coach alongside four years in professional and collegiate roles — two seasons as a professional pitching coach, one year as a professional manager, and two years at the collegiate level, where he guided his program to back-to-back state championships for the first time in school history.

Caleb's proven player development system has propelled five athletes to Major League Baseball, secured four draft selections, produced multiple free-agent signings, and placed more than 50 players at four-year colleges, primarily in Division I programs on scholarship.

Keith Carson, Infield Instructor at Baseball Power Plant

Keith Carson

Infield Instructor

Read bio →

Keith Carson is the head infield instructor at the Power Plant. A local product, Keith attended Ponderosa High School before playing two years at Monterey Peninsula College, where under coach Nate Trosky he transitioned from outfield to infield. He went on to play on scholarship at Sacramento State, maintaining a mentorship with Trosky whose guidance remains influential in his coaching approach.

While at Sacramento State, Keith coached middle and high school travel teams alongside former MLB pitcher Chris Bosio — and discovered his passion for coaching. After graduating, he worked at the California Academy of Baseball in Sacramento as a coach and director of operations, then at various academies before launching Prospects of Troy four years ago, an unofficial feeder program for Oak Ridge High School.

Keith emphasizes a long-term player development approach, with the goal of helping each individual player maximize their full baseball potential — stressing life lessons alongside baseball skills, in contrast with win-at-all-costs youth baseball culture. His players have become starting infielders at multiple local high schools and junior colleges.
